Fees & Passes at Yellowstone National Park
Fees and Passes
Under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, Yellowstone National Park keeps 80% of all the fees collected. The park uses this money to fund critical projects that improve park infrastructure or protect resources. At Yellowstone National Park alone, entrance fee revenue allocates $8.8 million that the park can then use towards accessibility improvements, campgrounds, infrastructure, roads, native fish restoration, aquatic invasive species, mitigation and more.
Entrance Fees
It doesn’t matter if you’re visiting Yellowstone for a single time, or you’re planning to make the trip several times a year, the Federal Governmnet has provided the convenience of purchasing your passes online ahead of time.
Note: Visitors entering Yellowstone through the south entrance will first travel through Grand Tetons National Park and separate entrance fees will be charged.
Every Entrance Station Sells the Following Passes:
Seven Day Passes
These are good for entry into Yellowstone National Park for seven days from the date of purchase.
- Private, non-commercial $35
- Motorcycle or Snowmobile $30
- Individual (By Foot, Bicycle, Ski, Etc) $20/Person
Annual Pass
Annual passes provide free entrance into Yellowstone National Park for one year (valid through month of purchase) on a snowmobile, this pass permits the signer.
Yellowstone National Park Annual Pass $70
Things you should know about these passes:
- All passes are non-transferable
- All snowmobiles must be on a guided tour or permit
- Anyone 15 years or younger is exempt from paying entrance fees
- Passes may be used for entry as defined on the back of the pass
- Anyone traveling through the park for business or commercial purposes needs a commercial travel permit
Federal Lands Passes
These passes are accepted and sold at all yellowstone National Park entrance stations.
America The Beautiful Pass
Detoursy gives away America the Beautiful Passes to people signed up for our newsletter. The America the Beautiful Pass is part of the National Park and Federal Recreational Lands Pass series and is your ticket to over 2,000 federally owned recreational sites across the United States.
Passes provide these benefits:
- Entrance into Yellowstone National Park, other national parks, and national wildlife refuges.
- Standard amenity fees like day-use fees at national forests and grasslands, as well as lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and US Army Corps of Engineers.
Generally speaking, a single pass covers the aforemantioned fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle at per-vehicle fee areas or up to four adults at sites that charge per person. Some passes offer addtional benefits at camping sites- check individual locations for details.
The multi-park passes include:
- Annual pass: $80
- Current US Military Annual Pass: Free
- Senior Pass: $80 (Lifetime), $20 (Annual)
- Access Passe: Free
- Volunteer Pass: Free

Pets
Bringing your pet to Yellowstone National Park may limit the things you can do in the park. Protect both your pet and area wildlife by following these regulations:
- Pets can only accompany people in developed areas and remain within 100 feet of roads, parking areas, and campgrounds.
- Pets must be under your physical control at all times: in a car, in a crate, or on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
- Pets are not permitted on boardwalks, hiking trails, in the backcountry, or in thermal areas.
- Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object.
- Pets may not be left without access to shade, food, water, ventilation, or other basic needs. Pets may remain in vehilces for short periods of time, but it’s recommended that someone stay behind to ensure their well-being.
- Owners must bag and dispose of pet waste
There will not be any exceptions made for pets that are carried in arms, strollers, or backpacks in restricted areas of Yellowstone National Park.
These policies are in place to protect pets being killed by predators like bears, burned in thermal areas, or other dangers that exist in Yellowstone.
Service Animals
Qualified service animals assisting people with disabilities are allowed in all park facilities, but must be on a leash.
