About Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona
For fossil and dinosaur fans, The Petrified Forest National Park is an Arizona wonderland! The park is best known for being fossil-rich, especially fallen trees from the Late Triassic Period of the Mesozoic era (about 225 million years ago). During this time, the climate in the region was humid and subtropical. The widespread, colorful Chinle Formation contains the majority of the sediment that contains the fossil logs of the Petrified Forest. Visitors can also experience the 600 other archaeological sites; some including petroglyphs, that have also been discovered inside the confines of the national park.
