About Capitol Reef National Park
Nestled in the Water Pocket Fold (a geologic ‘wrinkle’ that extends nearly 100 miles), Capitol Reef National Park is a hidden trove of cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges. This area was home to generations of first people tribes that hunted and gathered in the area.
In the 1800’s, explorers and Mormon settlers arrived in Utah, and settled in what is now Fruita Rural Historic District and planted orchards of apples, pears, and peaches.
