About The Gateway Arch National Park
Gateway Arch National Park is a visual monument to St. Louis’ role in the Westward expansion of the United States. This space serves as a monument to Thomas Jefferson’s efforts to open the West up for expansion, a nod to the pioneers who made it happen and a memorialization of Dred Scott’s efforts to sue for his freedom in The Old Courthouse, The Gateway Arch was designated as a national memorial in 1935 and officially became a national park in 2018.
